FIRE-WISE

LOCAL FIRE INFORMATION

How do you evacuate a wildfire?

You should know the evacuation route and plan a place where you will go. Make sure everyone in your family knows your meeting place ahead of time. Let your family and friends who do not live in your area know your meeting place. Keep your car fueled and keep an emergency supply bag in your car.

If you have time, shut all windows and doors, leaving them unlocked. Remove flammable window shades, curtains and close metal shutters. Remove lightweight curtains. Move flammable furniture to the center of the room, away from windows and doors.

Regarding pets, contact local veterinary clinics, boarding facilities, local animal shelters, family or friends outside the evacuation area, or a pet-friendly hotel, particularly along evacuation routes.  Visit the Humane Society to find a shelter in your area.

All firewise trimmings can be brought to the Perley pit. To access the pit, please contact  Lorna lglaunsinger@yahoo.com.  Lorna serves as the Bonita Creek firewise coordinator.   Each year we ask that you provide Lorna with the number of hours you have worked on your property and your out of pocket costs for hiring service providers who firewise your property.  This information is reported to the National Firewise Organization each September.
